Dates

June 9 – 15, 2006.

Itinerary

Thursday, June 8

Check in at the Johnson and Wales Lodge in Seekonk, MA. This facility is near Providence, RI and there is a free pick-up from the Providence Airport. There are no activities scheduled for that night.

Friday, June 9

We get under way after a Society-hosted breakfast, departing for New Bedford and a ferry to Martha's Vineyard. Leaving New Bedford the ferry passes close to the Butler Flat Lighthouse and later the Nobska Lighthouse at Woods Hole. Our regular coach takes our luggage to Hyannis while we board another coach on the Vineyard to view the East Chop Lighthouse and enjoy a tour and box lunch at the West Chop station.

After lunch we head "up island" to tour the Gay Head Lighthouse and then swing past the Edgartown Lighthouse before returning to Oak Bluffs to catch a ferry to Falmouth, board our mainland coach and head for the International Inn in Hyannis for a two night stay.

Saturday, June 10

We board a high-speed ferry for Nantucket. As we enter the harbor, we pass by the two towers at Brant Point. On the island we'll have 3 ½ hours to visit the Whaling Museum, historic homes and lunch on our own before boarding an island bus for a trip to the Sankaty Head Lighthouse. At 4:35 p.m. the ferry takes us back to Hyannis for dinner and the night.

Sunday, June 11

We visit and tour Nobska and Chatham Lighthouses in the morning. In the afternoon we visit the Nauset Beach, Three Sisters of Nauset and Cape Cod (Highland) Lighthouses with a box lunch being served at Nauset. Arrive at Provincetown for a brief walk late afternoon walk around town and dinner at our lodge.

Monday, June 12

Board a vessel and cruise up the coast of Massachusetts viewing the Long Point, Woods End, Cape Race, Duxbury Reef, Plymouth, Scituate, Minots Ledge, Boston, The Graves, Marblehead, Baker Island, Eastern Point, Cape Ann, Straitsmouth and Annisquam Lighthouses. You'll have an opportunity to buy lunch aboard the vessel before landing at Newburyport and meeting our coach. The tour spends two nights in the Newburyport area.

Tuesday, June 13

Visit the Plum Island and Plum Island Range Lighthouses and historic Custom House Museum in the morning. Then visit the quaint fishing village of Rockport where you'll have lunch on your own and time to poke around that historic town. Lobster bake supper at The Gloucester House before heading back to our hotel.

Wednesday, June 14

After breakfast, our coach takes us to Boston's Logan Airport (for those flying out of Boston or renting a vehicle), then to the Johnson & Wales Inn so those who drove can retrieve their vehicles and, finally, to the Providence Airport to deliver those who fly out of that airport.
