Quinn's Lighthouse (CA) in Bay Area to close after 40 years
Quinn's Lighthouse, a cherished seafood restaurant in Oakland, is closing its doors after 40 years.
The restaurant, which is best known for its unique location within a historic lighthouse, is set to close Wednesday following a lack of corporate events and game day crowds that it saw before the pandemic, a manager told the San Francisco Chronicle.

Registration open for St. Augustine (FL) Lighthouse's 2024 spring camp, 'Survivor!'
Registration is now open for the nation's oldest port camp. Campers should register soon, as there are only 15 spots open.
While at camp, kids will learn how the early Lighthouse Keepers utilized the land around them. Together, campers and counselors will spend the week exploring the outdoors while learning how to identify plants in the Maritime Hammock, animals that make St. Augustine their home and how to make a compass.

The 1866 Tragedy That Inspired the Pigeon Point (CA) Lighthouse
On Nov. 28, 1866, the Coya - an iron, 515-ton ship from Britain - finally approached the California coastline after months at sea. Bound for San Francisco, it carried 19 sailors and 10 passengers, along with a cargo of coal from Sydney.
The journey had begun with a foreboding omen. Twelve days after leaving Sydney Harbor, one of the ship's crew, a man named Peter Johnson, fell overboard and drowned. No one could have known then that the same fate would meet all but three people on board. Twenty-six men, women and children were killed when the Coya crashed just 50 miles away from its final destination.

Fenwick Island (DE) Lighthouse talk set Feb. 24
The Lewes Public Library and Zwaanendael Museum will welcome Winnie and Tracy Lewis, descendants of Fenwick Island Lighthouse Keeper William Edward Pepper, for a presentation about the history of the lighthouse at 5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, at the library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes. The event will also stream live online via Zoom.
The Fenwick Island Lighthouse had been in operation for only a decade when Pepper was assigned as an assistant lighthouse keeper in 1869, a position he held for 16 years. More than a century later, his great-great-great-granddaughter, Winnie Lewis, became president of the New Friends of the Fenwick Island Lighthouse, dedicated to maintaining and preserving this iconic landmark.

Final Decision in One Man's Hands
At the base of Barnegat Lighthouse there is a bust of its designer, Gen. George G. Meade. Few people realize there wouldn't be a lighthouse or monument if not for the decision of one man, Gen. Lansing Beach

Beach was born in Iowa in 1860 and graduated from West Point in 1882, joining the Army Corps of Engineers. Over the next 38 years he oversaw construction of dams, canals and river projects. He became head of the Corps in 1920.

Hook Lighthouse sitting on the tip of the Hook Peninsula is offering visitors named 'Patrick' and 'Patricia' the chance to enjoy a free tour this St. Patrick's Day plus there will be snake hunts for all the family to enjoy!
The medieval lighthouse is celebrating all that is uniquely Irish from a green there at the cafe and a celebration of Paddy's, Patrick's, Pat's and Patricia's plus there will be a Snake Hunt at 2 pm and 3 pm on the lighthouse lawns.

You can stay at the historic DeTour Reef Michigan lighthouse for $50 per night
If you're looking for a great lodging rate for your next Great Lakes adventure, you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal - or adventure - than that at DeTour Reef Light.
The historic offshore icon in northern Lake Huron has expanded its popular lighthouse keeper program, previously only open on weekends, to include weekly overnight stays at the rate of $50 per person per night, according to an announcement by DeTour Reef Light Preservation Society.

Lorain Lighthouse Foundation (OH) seeking funds for new work boat
The Lorain Lighthouse Foundation's work boat was sinking last summer.
Ron Mantini, president and treasurer of the Lorain's Lighthouse Foundation, said the organization spent about $10,000 last year alone in boat repairs, just trying to get the old work vessel through the summer.

$19.2 Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (NC) restoration begins
The extensive $19.2 million Cape Hatteras Lighthouse restoration begins in earnest Monday.
"When this lighthouse project is done, the lighthouse will be in better shape than it has been since it was built in 1870," said David Hallac, National Parks of Eastern North Carolina superintendent.
The National Park Service awarded the Massachusetts-based Stone & Lime Historic Restoration Services the project contract in September.
The project is expected to take 18 months, and the lighthouse should reopen for climbing in 2026, according to National Park Service information. It has been closed to climbers since 2020.
