Yaquina Head Light Station - 1881
Lighthouse Access
No landing near lighthouse, except on beach in smooth weather. Supplies usually landed on beach 2 miles from lighthouse. No wharf or boathouse. Road from lighthouse to town of Newport on Yaquina Bay is a passably good wagon road.
Teams can only haul small loads over wagon road. In passing over road from lighthouse, 1st 2 miles is hilly, with hard ground; next 1.5 miles is on sea beach, very good except 3 hours at high water, next 1.5 miles, into Newport is sandy and
hilly.
General character & condition of premises is good. Fences are neatly whitewashed, grounds free from rubbish, tower & buildings in good condition; illuminating apparatus clean & in order. Premises as a whole present a neat & tidy appearance.
